Born and raised in Beijing, Lexy (also known as Xiao Liangzi) is an artist and researcher, based at Fotoverkstedet & Isotop in Bergen. She works with experimental analogue photographic techniques, textile, and moving images, viewing photography as a form of performance and action that extends beyond the content of the image. She is interested in repetitive gestures, durational performance, materiality, exploring how time, perception, and repetition can produce a form of visibility and aesthetic experience. Her artistic practice is a path to self-awareness and self-transcendence. She approaches her
investigations philosophically, striving to build
a coherent, interconnected, and poetic theoretical system through her work.
Lexy has developed an alternative technique called Silver Mirroring Toning, which restores the shiny silver to the surface of silver gelatin materials. This process transforms the silver mirroring degradation of photographs into a mesmerizing visual effect, and even a protection layer for the analogue prints. She aims to spread analogue photography art related knowledge, reinterpret traditional techniques from a contemporary perspective, and expand hands-on engagement with analogue photography.
